Objective: Use camera and lighting to understand the use of CG lighting and shadow to Composite with a real environment

FINAL RENDER:

I first gathered the information needed to set up the scene for Maya(cub size, images), which included the camera focal length, and the resolution.

Using the information to create the scene and line up the camera

Creating different Render layers to separate the 3D object and shadow and later control and composite in Nuke

I set up the light and matched the lighting and shadow alignment compared to the photo.

To create the shadow that would be cast over the object, we gray out the clean plate and gather the information that would use that image plane as a projection. I would then capture the ground plate to clean up the edges and then project it on the light. Assigning the same material to the ball so that it can align with the shadow.

After rendering the layer, I break down the beauty image and shuffle the channel to color-correct it.

The was a problem with the shadow, it was casting double. the image set didn't have the clean shadow plate. As suggested by the professor, I took the clean plate In Photoshop to remove the shadow from the image and color-corrected it to match the shadow, creating another image as a clean plate shadow. which would be marge with the shadow to remove the doubling shadow as the object moves.
